The seafront is flat and completely walkable, beach, marina, church and rum mill are within a few hundred metres. Everything above or west of the village involves a real climb or a drive.
Where is the centre of Calheta?+
Avenida Dom Manuel I, the avenue running from the parish church down to the marina. The beach, the mill and most of the restaurants sit along it.
How far is Rabaçal from Calheta?+
About 25 km by road and 35–40 minutes' drive, climbing from sea level to roughly 1,300 m. It is inside the same municipality, which surprises most first-time visitors.
How do I get from the airport to Calheta?+
Madeira Airport (FNC) is about 75 km east, roughly an hour by car on the expressway. There is no direct bus.
