If Calheta answers the question "where is the sand?", Seixal answers "why did they have to import it?". The beach here is black, the cliffs behind it drip waterfalls after rain, and the banana terraces run right down to the rock.
What to do
Swim in the pools, walk the seafront, and take the short detour to the viewpoints above the village. It combines naturally with Porto Moniz, ten minutes west, to fill a north-coast day.
Practical notes
- North-coast weather is its own thing. Cloud here does not mean cloud at Calheta, and vice versa.
- The pools and beach close when the sea is running.
