History
How it came to be
The marina and the adjoining artificial beach were built as one project to give the south-west coast a sheltered harbour and a bathing shore, on a stretch of coast that had neither. It remains one of only a handful of marinas on Madeira.
What You'll See
On a visit
The pontoons and the boats going out for the morning cetacean trip; the view west along the coast towards Jardim do Mar; the promenade restaurants; and sunset from the outer wall, which faces almost due west.
How to Visit
Free to walk. Car parking at the marina beside the beach. Boat trips are booked with the operators based on the quay.

Good to Know
Whale- and dolphin-watching is the main one, typically running about two and a half hours. Operators on the quay also run coastal sailing trips, diving and fishing charters.
